Special thanks to Dr. Eaton, who is the BNURS360-460 Coordinator and has worked very hard since the beginning of the summer to recruit, we have 11 community partners for you to work with!
Due to the challenges caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, you (Bothell Cohort) are sharing the community partners with the other cohorts in BNURS360:
Everett Cohort
Instructor: Dr. Linda Eaton
Evergreen Cohort (in Kirkland)
Instructor: Dr. Stefanie Iverson Cabral
You will continue working with the same community partner and the same team members in BNURS360 & BNURS460
BNURS360: Critical Reading and Information Literacy in Nursing
Learn how to search sources of evidence and critically appraise them
BNURS460: Translating Scholarly Knowledge to Nursing Practice
Learn how to synthesize the evidence, write a paper, and present the findings to the community partner through oral presentation
Your professor in BNURS460 in Winter 2022 Quarter is Dr. Diana Neal (dianane@uw.edu)

3. Infection control programs in home health and hospice (Team Three)
Name, Job Title, Workplace
Greg Painter, MS, RN
Area Director of Education
Kindred Hospice
Workplace Information
I work for EvergreenHealth Hospice, which has both an inpatient and outpatient department. My role is Clinical Nurse Educator, and I am responsible for both departments. One of my responsibilities is overseeing our infection control program and serving as the hospice representative to our EvergreenHealth Infection Control Committee.
Clinical Problem Description
The clinical problem I would like investigated is established standards for infection control programs in home health and hospice. I have been unable to apply best practices for data collection, comparative data, and establishing program goals for infection control, as literature for home health and/or hospice programs is lacking. If the student group was unable to come up with a program to emulate, perhaps they could provide a template or ideal for us to promote moving into Q1 2022.

5. Fall risk for hematopoietic stem cell transplant survivors
Name, Job Title, Workplace
Denae Davis, RN, BMTCN, OCN (& Jen Lynch)
Nursing Supervisor
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
Workplace Information
I am the nursing supervisor for SCCA's Long Term Follow Up (LTFU) Clinic within their Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program. We also call this treatment hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT or HCT), which is a treatment for blood disorders (such as leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia). LTFU specializes in preventing/managing late effects from the transplant and its preceding therapies and helping patients live with their new normal.
Clinical Problem Description
I am interested in: Fall risk and interventions for hematopoietic stem cell transplant survivors: looking at the context of falls considering survivors’ risk factors and what are effective fall screening and prevention interventions we can implement. My focus and expertise are within BMT survivorship, though some of the late effects are generalizable to overall cancer survivorship (if you think BMT is too narrow), such as decreased bone density from deconditioning during treatment and decreased hormone production resulting from treatment. My BMT patients have the added risk of long-term prednisone therapy which decreases bone density and muscle mass. I think there is less literature on fall risks specific to BMT survivors than there is for fall risks for cancer survivors, so the fall risks and interventions would need to be extrapolated from the literature to be applied to BMT survivors.

Name, Job Title, Workplace
Melora Riveira, BSN, RN, CCRN-K, CPHQ
Nurse Manager of Procedural Areas: Ambulatory Procedure Area, Endoscopy, Gamma Knife & Vascular Access
Harborview Medical Center
Workplace Information
I am a Nurse Manager at Harborview Medical Center overseeing four procedural areas/groups: Endoscopy, Ambulatory Procedures, Vascular Access, and Gamma Knife. I, like other managers and administrators, have seen the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on many practice areas including my own in terms of staff resilience and burnout.
Clinical Problem Description
I am interested in nurse resiliency during the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact to staff satisfaction and workforce retention. I would be interested in what managers/ administrators/ organizations can learn from what is or what is not in the literature thus far on how to mitigate the challenges for their staff on the frontline. Strategies or practical application for organizations could help improve staff satisfaction, retention and in turn, increase patient satisfaction/experience and safety.
