Making and Digital Art Projects for All Subjects

In this session, participants will practice designing student projects that incorporate media design and making to learn academic subjects. When students are given three dimensions of choice (choice of topic, medium, and approach), they become more engaged, creative, and learn the concepts more deeply. We will learn how to use three-dimensional choice to plan sample projects, see examples of student work, and learn what Clark Planetarium is doing to implement a Cosmic Creator Challenge.

Investing in STEAM: The Studio Makerspace Approach

Join us for an immersive exploration into the world of makerspaces. In this session, we'll delve into best practices for integrating makerspaces K-8 district-wide. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, participants will discover how makerspaces foster creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration in students.
Drawing from successful middle school and elementary models, we'll explore how makerspaces can extend learning beyond traditional hours, providing students with hands-on opportunities for exploration and discovery. We will identify essential resources and materials, showcasing Canyons District’s Makerspace Canvas course which houses websites, how-tos, and lessons that empowers students in their exploration of STEAM concepts.
Educators and makerspace facilitators will examine the integration of makerspaces into STEAM initiatives district-wide, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections and holistic learning experiences. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for leveraging makerspaces to enhance STEAM education across grade levels.

In this session, we will show why Cricut is so popular amongst K12 Classroom Teachers, Media Center and Makerspace Educators and how it is used to promote creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
