Rev. Tovis is delighted to serve the UUCSR community alongside Rev. Amy and looks forward to connecting with you!
Rev. Tovis is called to both congregational and interfaith community ministries, and to the larger Unitarian Universalist movement that seeks to embody a theology of radically inclusive love, continuous revelation and collective liberation. She envisions a future in which UU congregations are connected nodes of transformation in the wider web of regenerative, life-sustaining change.
With roots in San Mateo County, Tovis has served the UU congregations in San Mateo, Redwood City and Half Moon Bay in various leadership capacities and has been active in interfaith circles on the Peninsula for over a decade. She was ordained in May 2023 by the UU Fellowship of Redwood City, her family’s home congregation of many years. Between February 2023-June 2025, she served the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo as a transitional co-minister. In addition to her role at UUCSR, she currently serves as the Program Director of the Peninsula Solidarity Cohort, a network of religious leaders from diverse traditions working for justice, equity and compassion in San Mateo County.
Prior to receiving her call to Unitarian Universalist ministry, Tovis earned a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD in Religion, Gender and Culture from Harvard University. Eventually she realized she was more interested in the practice of religion than the study of it. Tovis has a background in Vipassana meditation practice and completed a yearlong course in Buddhist chaplaincy before starting her UU training at Starr King School for the Ministry in 2017. She completed her congregational internship with the UUs of San Mateo in 2019 and her Clinical Pastoral Education at Stanford Hospital in 2022.
Tovis lives near Redwood City with her spouse, two teenage sons and various furry, feathered and scaly critters. She enjoys gardening, nature, spending time with loved ones and a good cup of coffee.

Rev. Ranwa (they/them) is honored to serve the UUCSR community alongside Rev. Tovis and looks forward to connecting with you!
An ordained minister in Full Fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist tradition, Rev. Ranwa has served in a number of capacities - in religious education, congregational ministry, hospital and community chaplaincy, and most recently as a faith-rooted community organizer at local, statewide, and national levels. They come to UUCSR after serving five years supporting the UUA's national justice and organizing ministries as the Congregational Justice Organizer on the Side with Love Organizing Strategy Team. They continue to engage in organizing ministries with faith at the center, fueled by the belief that it is our responsibility to heal the harms of the past and present, and create a more prophetic, thriving, and loving future for all.
As a "third culture kid" - raised by Muslim parents who immigrated from the "Middle East" to the US as graduate students - they have a deep appreciation for and lived experience with the challenge and beauty of liminal spaces. Where there is uncertainty, Rev. Ranwa seeks to highlight possibility; when there is change, Rev. Ranwa seeks to support adaptability. This appreciation for the experience of "in-betweenness" has shaped their understanding that we are always becoming, and that every moment offers an opportunity for transformation.
While a commitment to our collective liberation is a core aspect of their identity and ministry, there are other aspects of their self that inevitably show up! Rev. Ranwa is a trained vocalist and song leader, and has been been known to improvise hymn parodies, write a quick song chant for a movement moment, or break out a lyric that they feel fits the mood. They are a proud parent of a toddler and three cats, all of whom receive ample cuddles and treats from them and their spouse. As a "reverently irreverent" being. Rev. Ranwa believes in the necessity of play, imagination, creativity, and joy for our resistance and survival, for it is in those moments when we feel the lightness of our spirit, do we truly remember what it is we are fighting for.
Whatever “form” Rev. Ranwa's ministry takes, one thing remains constant - there is a fierce love at its center. They look forward to sharing more of their story - and learning some of yours, as well! - as we journey together in faith, justice, and abundant love.

I was raised a Unitarian Universalist, attending the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento and attending all the programs that I will now lead like OWL and Coming of Age. My mother was raised a Unitarian Universalist and my grandmother even served as the Director of Religious Education at the Sacramento Church in the 80s. I moved to Sonoma County for college and graduated from Sonoma State University, Magna Cumme Laude with a Bachelors’ in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Environmental studies and Women and Gender Studies. Gage Purdy believes that music is a way by which to unite people in the human experience of being close and harmonious with one another – that music fundamentally shapes the mind and changes the heart to be more joyful, more passionate, and perhaps a little better equipped to find light in our world. Gage was born and raised in Sonoma County and is thrilled to be taking on a role supporting this vibrant community through fellowship and music! Outside of UUCSR, Gage directs two other local choirs, the California Redwood Chorale and the Occidental Community Choir, and lives in Santa Rosa with his darling wife Crystal and their two sons, Bodhi and Finn.
Adam has lived in Sonoma County most of his life. He has always found working with the local community to foster positive change very satisfying. As Sexton at UUCSR he endeavors to provide a safe and pleasant space in which to worship, and to attend the variety of events we hold here in our role as The Glaser Center.
