Homunculus Design

The Penfield's Homunculus

The homunculo is a visual representation of the motor and somatosensory regions of the human brain. Named when Penfield and Boldrey published a paper 1937 describing the regions of motor and sensory cortex in the brain.

This proyect was develop within the NeuroVR Lab, an iniciative to  provide a new way to expirience Neuroscience. Here you can find how to carry out this laboratory and it is available for free. 

The virtual environment was created using unity 3D and the SteamVR plugins availables for free. This environment inpired on an anatomy laboratory, created using free assets dowloand from the unity assests store. A mirror is placed in the center of the laboratory to enable the users interactiong with their own homunculus

The interaction with the homunculus was designed using the Kinect V2 sensor, in this manner the users can move their own homunculus with the movements of their bodys. The kinect's conexion to Unity was developed using the plugins found in https://neurorehabilitation.m-iti.org/tools/en/kave
