VR BUS

As part of my undergraduate internship I was visiting the NeuroRehabLab at Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, Portugal, where I worked as assistant researcher for 3 months, integrating biosignals into a virtual reality environment for a CAVE-like environment developed in Unity3D.

3D bus Model

This virtual environment was developed using the already built RehabCity, and a 3D model of domestic Bus based design developed by me in Blender.

I programmed in Unity 3D the bus riding effects as well as the interaction in the city.

The Simulation

This virtual reality scenario was developed to evaluate balance. This is achieve through the connection of two sensors to a bus ride simulation. The Wii Balance Board measures the pressure centres of the standing person on it, and was conected using a Client developed by me. The grip (Dynamometer) from the Bioplux sensor was used to measure the hand's pressure stimulus that a person develop to grab on something . Thoose pressure changes were created due to the turns made by the VR Bus while a person was in the simulator.

This VR bus is being use in ongoing research at NeuroRehabLab, where they are trying to validate this simulation as a balance measurement for elder people.
