INTRODUCTION

This programme is designed for candidates who wish to obtain knowledge of applying Information Technology (IT) in variety of contexts, such as Management, Education, Library and Information Services, Manufacturing and others.  This programme aims at producing responsible, innovative and creative graduates with skills in planning, organizing, designing and managing variety of ICT-based solutions to different kind of organizations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

CGPA > = 2.75 for the Bachelor Degree of Information Technology or Computer Science from UTM or any other recognized Institution of Higher Learning ; OR

CGPA > = 2.75 for the Bachelor Degree other that Information Technology (IT) and related fields with some several years of working experience related in IT; OR

CGPA < 2.75 for the Bachelor Degree in related Information Technology fields with several years of working experience in Information Technology and recognized by University Senate.

CGPA < 2.50 for the Bachelor Degree in related Information Technology fields with five years of working experience in Information Technology and recognized by University Senate.

*(Non IT and Computer Science background must complete pre-requisite course(s) in the first semester of the programme).

Course: Information Technology Planning & Management

Synopsis: This course presents a strategic perspective to the planning and management of IS/IT in an organization. It consists of two modules.  The first module is on the strategic planning of IS/IT and covers the concept of strategic IS planning (SISP), the context of SISP and the process of formulating an SISP for an organization.  This module introduces the student to a strategic perspective of IS/IT, provides an overview of business strategy and IS/IT strategy concepts, and introduces a framework for formulating an SISP for an organization. The second module is on the strategic management of IS/IT in an organization. Topics covered in this module are information management, knowledge management, organising and re-sourcing IS/IT, managing IS/IT investment, and managing IS services, applications and infrastructure.

Course: System Development Application

Synopsis: There are three parts in the course.  In the first part, students will learn how to do an enterprise analysis as a top-down approach to information system development.   In the second part, student practice on how to analyze, improve, design and model a computer-supported business process by applying systems development concepts, tools and techniques. In the third part, students will be exposed to the driving forces in information systems development and different information systems development methodologies, so that they are able to identify their strengths/weaknesses for a specific development project.

Course: Trends in Information Technology Applications

Synopsis: This course explores the latest issues in ICT environments such as issues of big data, integration of data from different information systems and how these issues were addressed using appropriate and current ICT.  Students will be exposed to range of current trends in information technologies environment such as cloud computing, social network, e-service and supply chain management, consumerization to IT, business intelligence and analytical so that they are able to critically analyze, evaluate andjustify the application of appropriate technical based IT solutions to address organizational problems.

Course: Research Methodology in IT Management

Synopsis: This is the pre-requisite course for MSc IT Management dissertation.  This course will cover the theory and practical aspects of conducting research. Topics covered include problem formulation, literature review, research methodology, data analysis, research ethics, report writing, publication, presentation and application for intellectual property. Students are introduced to four research categories of   Master of IT with specialization in IT Management dissertation. The categories are information system planning (ISP), context-based application research, state-of-the-art research and information systems research.
