MJIIT was established as a government-to-government initiative with the objective of incorporating a novel Japanese-style of education in Malaysia. The approach is based on intensive R&D activities as well as close relations between academics and students capitalizing on a highly productive work environment with a strong sense of professional ethics. MJIIT works closely with Japanese universities and industries to create a distinctive working culture and employs a holistic approach in its programs offering. MJIIT offers undergraduate programs, postgraduate and R&D activities.
Presently, there are 5 departments in MJIIT with 3 undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Chemical Process Engineering, Bachelor of Mechanical Precision Engineering, Bachelor of Electronics System Engineering) and 6 taught courses postgraduate master degree programs and 2 postgraduate full time research programs. The academic programs at MJIIT are strongly supported by a consortium of Japanese Universities (Figure 2).
Currently 29 Japanese universities have become a member of Japanese University Consortium (JUC) under the support of JICA and MEXT play a major role in providing adequate and continuous support and necessary platform for educational link with MJIIT which include allocating Japanese academic staff to MJIIT, to be engaged with MJIIT educational and research activities, coordinating and liaise with Japanese industries both in Malaysia and Japan including to ensure Japanese experts from both industry and academia willing to disseminate their knowledge in MJIIT in the form of special seminars or as invited speakers/lecturers under specific programs.
