MODULE 1
Module 1 shares a combined focus on 2 core competencies of parental, family, and community engagement in schools. Part 1 guides participants to engage in readings and activities that support respecting, honoring, and valuing families. You will also explore the differences between family engagement and family involvement. Part 2 demonstrates how to use family engagement to center and embrace equity in your classroom. In this module, you will explore a brief history of familial involvement and engagement in education, and how your personal experiences can support a more inclusive classroom culture.
MODULE 2
This module aims to enable pre-service teachers to build trusting reciprocal relationships with families by visiting community spaces together and talking about mathematics in those spaces. This module also aims at helping teachers learn how to co-construct mathematics learning opportunities with families that align across school and home activities.
MODULE 3
Module 3 works to help pre-service teachers foster community partnerships for learning and family well-being. It does so by helping teachers:
a. build community partnerships to support children and families.
b. establish systems to expand how families link to community resources.
c. cultivate social support networks and connections among families.
