According to National Geographic, neighborhoods are areas "where people live and interact with one another" and generally form in a manner based on the geography and culture of the residents. When these residents come together, a sense of community forms and may strengthen based on the identity and associated traditions.
The Student Union is in essence a neighborhood within our very large campus. Students, faculty, staff, and guests are in this geographically specific location to interact with one another in a community setting by sharing meals and visiting shops to attending meetings and events. Even more so, these same people spend time in the "living room" of our neighborhood by studying, enjoying a cup of coffee, or simply people watching.
The Student Union Department considers all of you who work in the Student Union to be neighbors. We interact with each other often and have developed our own internal culture and traditions. We know the neighborhood will continue to evolve and are excited to see what comes next for all of us.
It's that time of the year! Submit your furry pets or pet rocks to bring a little joy and fun to the Student Union over winter break.
In December 2020, the Student Union ran a special feature on the digital screens in the building called "Friends of the Student Union." The purpose was to provide something that made people want to smile after a tough fall semester. We received rave reviews and are bringing it back for the fourth year.
