As educators, we have the ability to spread positive messages and collaboratively transform education through social media. When conveying your message remember:
Consider your audience. What possible preconceived notions and arguments may they bring up? Is what you are creating age appropriate or within the guidelines set forth by your district?
Appeal to the senses; use visuals, sounds, etc,
Share stories, but make sure you are respecting confidentiality. Keep it on the safe side and NEVER post students' faces or names.
Follow your district or school administrations lead when it comes to social media. Know what is acceptable and follow those rules, when in doubt, find out!
Refrain from sharing personal pictures or pictures of your students
As an educator you need to STOP, THINK, and REFLECT on what your digital footprint says about you.
The rules for appropriate interactions with students remain the same no matter whether the communications is in person, on the telephone, through social media or other digital method. To review, responsible and ethical use of technology addresses how we, as educators, maintain distinctions between our personal and professional lives in the era of digital and electronic media.
Remember:
Overshare the professional
Undershare the personal
Never share the private
Are you ready to step up to the mark and make sure that you are always choosing to use technology ethically?
