Responsibility to Students:
Student/Teacher Conversations
As educators, you need to use your professional judgement and consider the implications and appearance of an action or event thoroughly beforehand. From time to time, you will have students come to you because they feel more comfortable speaking with you than they do with their parents or guardians. When interacting with a student avoid becoming involved in their private lives. When faced with a situation similar to the coach, it is best to pull experts into the conversation. Maybe suggest walking with the student to continue the conversation with the school councilor or nurse present. Be upfront with them, letting them know that you are concerned about them and want them to get the best answers as possible, but that this conversation can be see as an ethical violation.
