Responsibility for Professional Competence:
State Mandate Infractions
From 2015 to today, 30 educators received a formal reprimand, 19 had their license suspended, and 4 had their license revoked for test security infractions. Common violations involved intentional errors in the testing process, blatant cheating to influence the outcome, and paraphrasing/prompting students.
The following are some of the actions these Tennessee educators committed:
leaving the students unsupervised in the classroom during administration of the exam
assisting students during the administration of the exam
telling students to recheck their work and specifically mentioning one student by name
Thumbing through the test book prior to administration of the exam
using their cell phone during administration
talking about the test after the test is finished
Respondent altered test directions during TCAP tests when wrote them on the board for students. Respondent slept during test. Respondent was on her computer during test. Respondent returned students’ test materials with post it notes in each test booklet.
Respondent took at least sixty‐three (63) pictures of three different TCAP test booklets (Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry) by sneaking absent students’ test booklets out of the testing room to the restroom.
Make sure you know the testing procedures and policies and follow all protocols. If a mistake is made, own up to it immediately, don't hide it.
