Shadowing

SSEM Shadowing services are for SSEM members only unless we have an agreement with your group or school.

We currently offer 2 options for shadowing:

1.) Choose any one of the three shifts below on whatever date you prefer. Email SSEM.Shadowing and we will pair you with a physician for that date.

        2. Evening 2p-10p

        3. Night 10p-6a

2.) Gain access to the Google Shadowing Calendar. Choose a shift from that list. Email SSEM.Shadowing we'll set everything up from there.

  • The Google Shadowing Calendar is best viewed in "Month" view.

  • MHH = Memorial Hermann Hospital at 6411 Fannin.

  • LBJ = Lyndon B Johnson General Hospital at 5656 Kelley St. (Right now the Google Calendar shows only MHH. If you want to shadow at LBJ, please ask via email for a screenshot of the LBJ monthly calendar and we'll be glad to send it to you.)

  • Once you email us with your selection we'll handle everything from there.

  • Attire is scrubs and white coat or as you would dress when seeing patients/SPs (shirt/tie equivalent + white coat).

  • Show up to the nurses station 10 minutes before the shift starts and they can direct you to the physician you'll be shadowing.

All correspondence to EM Faculty about shadowing will be handled by SSEM. Your only obligation is to show up at the nurses station of the Emergency Department you've chosen, on time and wearing scrubs + white coat. Bring your stethoscope, a notepad, something to write with, and a good attitude!
