As part of the activities of the PEGASUS project closure, the Peruvian research team visited the cities of Leeds and Newcastle in the United Kindom to present the project's research results and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, perspectives and experience for the investigation of glaciers in Peru. The researchers gave presentations at the Faculty of the Environment of the University of Leeds and the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences from the University of Northumbria in Newcastle. The visit program included a visit to Malham Cove, a natural limestone formation.

The project's final research results and deliverables were presented in a two-day online event in December 2022. The presentations were given by researchers from both the Peruvian and British sides. Day 1 focused on the research results on Climate Change and ice recession, Sediment dynamics and Present and future glacial lakes, whereas Day 2 focused on the Social perspective and recommendations. The discussion panels included the participation of the National Institute for Research in Glaciers and Mountain Ecosystems (INAIGEM) and the Mountain Institute (IM).

Within the framework of the closure of the PEGASUS project, the main research results and impacts of the project were presented to the British Embassy in Peru, one of the project's financing entities. Government institutions of the Lima region, responsible for the management of water resources in Peru, such as the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), and the National Institute for Research on Glaciers and Mountain Ecosystems (INAIGEM), also attended the event.

In-person workshop held in the city of Cusco, Peru, to present the research results and project deliverables to government institutions from the Cusco region responsible for the management of regional water resources. The objective of the workshop was to present the results and challenges of the research work for feedback from public officials.

Online free course offered with the aim of contributing to strengthening the capacities of decision-makers, researchers, and people involved in the management of mountain ecosystems in the Andes. The course had about 80 participants, including experts, young researchers and public managers, from different regions of Peru, as well as from Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.

Why doesn't the climate crisis affect everyone equally in the Andes?
In this seminar, we discussed how the glaciers in Peru and Chile have marked the public agenda on climate justice in relation to the retreat of glaciers and its impacts on societies.

On World Environment Day, the CITA presented its main research projects on environmental conservation in coastal, mountain, and Amazonian environments in Peru to show the interdisciplinary of environmental research projects and the diverse applications of science and engineering. The target audience was particularly schoolchildren and first-year university students.

The I Symposium on Tropical Glaciers sought to contribute to research on water security and climate change in Peruvian glaciers and mountain ecosystems throughout the entire Andes mountain range. A better understanding of the rate of glacial retreat in Latin America and the impact of this on water security and natural hazards will be presented during the event.

Madrid, December 2-6, 2019
The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference was the 25th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Professor Sofía Castro, from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, participated in the event as part of the Peruvian delegation with the objective to connect with national and international decision-makers working on the topics of water resources, climate change, and mountain and glacier environments and that could potentially contribute to fulfilling the objectives of the PEGASUS project.

On June 10 and 12, 2019, the first field trip of the PEGASUS project was carried out in Cusco, where the areas of San Isidro de Chicón, Pitumarca, Sicuani, Phinaya and Sibinacocha were visited. The objective of this field trip was to meet with the authorities of the communities involved in the study area of the project to briefly introduce the project, present part of the research team and request the respective permits required for the different planned activities. Likewise, two of the sites where measurements will be carried out as part of the investigation were visited to make a recognition of the study area.

The launch event for the research projects RAHU and PEGASUS took place at the Paraninfo of the San Antonio Abad National University in Cusco. RAHU was dedicated to addressing water security and climate change adaptation in Peruvian watersheds fed by glaciers, while PEGASUS focused on energy production and mitigating risks associated with future surface water storage in Peru.
