From The Utah Journey textbook:
One way to make sense of the world is to think of it in smaller parts. They consider what places have in common and group them into regions. A region is made up of places that share something in common. A region can be large or small, and you can live in many types of regions at the same time. Political regions include voting districts, counties, states, and countries. Agriculture regions might be divided by the kinds of crops that grow in an area. There are mining regions, cultural regions, and regions that share physical features or landforms (natural features of the Earth's surface).
Three major landforms in the West makeup Utah's land regions. These include basins (wide, bowl-shaped area), plateaus (high, wide, flat areas), and mountains. Each region is made up of one main kind of landform but may contain others. (The Utah Journey, 2017 pg. 8)
Utah is broken into 3 regions. The regions are:
Colorado Plateau
Rocky Mountain Region
Basin and Range
