FAQ Financial Literacy
What are the Essential Standards for the course?
How much time should I plan on working each week?
3-5 hours each week
How old should I be to take this class?
This class is recommended for Juniors and Seniors, but Sophomores can take it if approved by their counselor. Please consider taking the class another term if you are a freshman or younger.
What is the grade scale for the class?
I round up, so a 92.5% + is an A!
How do I contact Ms. Harris with questions?
pharris@utahonline.org I will send announcements that include essential information on how to be successful. Please check your inbox often. If you are not getting my messages, please check your Spam and Trash folders. If you still cannot find them, please send me an email so I can confirm the email address listed for you in our system. Please do NOT send messages to a washk12.org email address or in the Edgenuity system.
How Do I Reattempt Work to Improve My Grade?
How Do I Change Share Settings in Google Drive?
Taking another’s ideas or words and presenting them as your own is plagiarism. Participating in your education with honesty and integrity is imperative to your success at UOS. Plagiarism is NOT tolerated. Students who plagiarize work will NOT receive credit for the submission. This includes common plagiarism websites, copying another student’s work, using Artificial Intelligence, AND sharing of written work, essays, or math problems. If identical work is submitted, neither student will receive credit, and each will be asked to complete an original piece of work for partial credit. Further, both the student and the parent/guardian will need to meet with the administration to discuss disciplinary action.
Is there extra credit in this class?
NO! I like to focus on the work initially assigned in the course and help you master it, rather than adding on additional work when the initial work isn’t mastered. There is a system in place for redoing work to improve your grade. Please do not ask for extra credit. The answer will be no. How do I reattempt work?
How do I see my current grade?
The grade on the Edgenuity dashboard is always the most current. Grades are updated in PowerSchool every Wednesday, after enrollment ends. PowerSchool is not used during the summer term.
Your final grade will be the Relative Grade.
A Relative Grade reflects zeros for all missing work, regardless of pacing. It is the final grade a student will earn if they stop working today. The Relative Grade will be the final grade on the transcript at the end of the semester. Displaying the Relative Grade on the dashboard two weeks before the end of the term gives students time to complete more work while being fully aware of the outcome of their grade. As work is completed, the Relative Grade will climb. When the course is 100% complete, the Actual and Relative Grade will match.
If you are not 100% complete, your Relative Grade will be your final grade. It will be lower than your Actual Grade because the Relative Grade counts missing work as a zero.
If you are 100% complete, the Relative and Actual Grades will match.
Students should confirm with their teachers that all work has been completed.
Actual Grade is the quality of your completed work that also factors in pacing. If you have completed two assignments at 100% but should have completed four assignments by that time in the course, zeros are added for those that are incomplete. This grade will be entered in PowerSchool until the last two weeks of the semester. At that point, the Relative grade will be entered and is used for your final grade.
Relative Grade is the grade you would earn for a final grade if you quit working this very minute and never did any more work for the rest of the semester (once all work is graded). This will eventually be your final grade. The Relative Grade assigns a zero for all missing work remaining in the class.
Is there a final exam for this class?
YES! The Cumulative Exam in Edgenuity is considered your final exam. You can take it on your own time as soon as you get to it.
Is the state test different from the Cumulative Exam in Edgenuity?
YES! The Cumulative Exam is taken online, at your convenience, with no proctor, it is required, and counts on your grade. If it is not taken, it will count as a zero. The course is NOT complete without this exam. The state test is a separate test and is NOT in Edgenuity. It must be taken at a specific, predetermined time, is proctored by remote AI proctor, can be opted out of, and does not count on your grade.
Can I opt-out of the state test?
YES! Please put your preference of whether or not you would like to take the state test on this form.
Why should I take the state test? What happens if I don’t? What’s in it for me?
There is no penalty if you don’t take the state test. Teachers are required to offer it and are not allowed to count it as part of the grade. If you pass with 80%+ you will earn a printable PDF certificate.
Can I finish my course early?
YES! As soon as your course shows 100% complete, you are finished with the course. I have had some students finish this class in a matter of weeks! The amount of time it will take is totally dependent on how much you work and what you already know! Passing pretests is a great way to speed up the class, so try hard… ALWAYS! Before you quit working, make sure you are satisfied with your RELATIVE GRADE!
Can I access my course in Spanish or another language?
YES. This doc will show you have to change the language settings in your course. Also, you can change the captions in any videos I send to you, as shown on the doc.
Can I get additional time to work beyond the semester end date?
THE LAST DAY TO WORK ON ONLINE COURSES IS SET BY UOS, NOT BY STUDENTS OR PARENTS. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! The last day will be here before you know it!
No additional time will be granted to work on online work or projects without a thorough conversation with Ms. Harris in the last week of the semester. In this conversation, we will assess prior effort, discuss the extreme extenuating circumstances you are experiencing that could potentially justify additional time to work, such as a death in the family, physical injury, severe illness, etc. Together, we will determine the next steps for your success.
PROCRASTINATION is NOT an Extreme Extenuating Circumstance!!
Plan ahead… life happens. People get sick, accidents happen, social plans are made, and sometimes you just don’t feel like working. I get it! However, you have a LOT of power to plan ahead and get ahead of pace NOW so you are prepared for anything in the last weeks of the semester.
How do .25 credit courses work?
The graduation requirement for Financial Literacy in Utah is .5 credit.
If you are enrolled in Q1 or Q2 Financial Literacy (a .25 credit course), and you NEED to earn .5 (or if this is the first credit you will earn towards the Financial Literacy graduation requirement), please return to the SEATS Portal to also request the missing quarter to ensure you conclude with the .5 credit of Financial Literacy required for graduation!! So, if you are enrolled in Q1 (Part A) then request Q2 (Part B), and if you are enrolled in Q2 (Part B) then request Q1 (Part A). PLEASE be sure to complete Q1 before Q2.
If you are in Q1 and Q2 in the same semester, you can use the same book project for both sections. When submitting it for the second time, email Ms. Harris to remind her that you are using the same project for both sections. You are welcome to complete a new project if you choose.
