Get to know your Counselors!
Liz Swanson: I am excited to become part of the Utah Military Academy family in Lehi! As a former founding parent of a charter school I recognize the need for choice in education. I obtained a Master degree in school counseling from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor degree in Political Science from Utah State University. I worked as a college and career counselor at Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy (KGMPA) serving 10th to 12th graders. While at KGMPA, I headed up their first College Application Week and coordinated with military recruiters and college counselors throughout the year. I served as a scholarship coordinator and worked with seniors in creating scholarship resumes. I spent a year at Oquirrh Hills Middle school as a paid counselor intern with full duties as a school counselor. Prior to obtaining my Master degree in school counseling I worked at a private college in career services helping students find internships and jobs. I love helping students discover career interests and advocating for them individually.
Elaine Wilson: I have been involved with Charter schools for over 7 years now, and I love that this option is available in education. I have worked for the last three years in charter schools as both a counselor and a teacher. I also taught English at Dixie State University. My passion is in counseling. I am currently working on my PhD in psychophysiology, and then will also complete a second masters in clinical counseling. I also began my Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, and I studied for two weeks in Dublin, Ireland for this. I love education, and am dedicated to helping students find their strengths and improve on any weaker areas. Mental health in all of this is vital, and it’s one of the many reasons that I decided to pursue even more education in this so that I can best help my students.
