Harm Reduction Navigator Certification
Dates: July 17-18, 2025, 9:00 am-2:30 pm
Location: Virtual, Google Meet
This training is designed to teach participants the basics of harm reduction for people who use drugs. Participants will learn to apply these principles to meet individuals where they are and utilize compassion to help mitigate the harms of substance use. The intended audiences for this training are syringe exchange program staff and others who work adjacent to substance use. If you have questions, please contact syringeexchange@utah.gov.
Harm Reduction Navigator Recertification

Recertification sessions are intended for individuals who completed the initial Harm Reduction Navigator training more than two years ago. The three-hour recertification training will be a refresher on the foundational principles of harm reduction and address recent developments in the field. Recertification is highly recommended for syringe exchange staff and volunteers. If you have questions about the status of your certification, please contact syringeexchange@utah.gov.

Changing Minds: Implementing Harm Reduction

This webinar focuses on the impact of staff training to change staff attitudes regarding harm reduction interventions. The training outlines a process undertaken at The Bridge of Central MA from 2016-2017, using the Learning Collaborative model to plan and execute trainings in harm reduction. The presentation reviews the tracking of process and outcomes using the Harm Reduction Acceptability Scale (HRAS), and recommendations for implementing similar training packages in a variety of settings.
Harm Reduction Treatment for PWUD

This program reviews some of the basic information on harm reduction treatment with individuals who use substances. Total abstinence is not always the answer, especially in low risk situations and with younger drug users. Understanding that there are alternatives to finding a path to recovery allows clients to open up about their struggles, feeling secure in setting their own goals, and normalizing the relapses that all addiction professions know will occur. This webinar includes recent research findings on clinician acceptance of harm reduction treatment.
