Syringe Disposal
How to dispose of used needles
Don't put your used syringes or sharps containers in the trash, or flush used syringes down the toilet. Don't put used syringes in the recycling bin.
Put used needles and syringes in a sharps container. If you don’t have a sharps container, use a plastic bottle that cannot be punctured or broken, such as a laundry detergent bottle or a plastic coffee container. Avoid soda cans, milk cartons, and glass bottles.
Put the sharps in a container as soon as you use them. Close the screw-on cap tightly, put tape over the cap, and write "contains sharps" on the bottle.
Keep the container closed and away from children and pets.
Bring an appropriate container with you when you travel, including when you plan on exchanging used syringes for new ones. Some syringe service providers have sharps containers and labels available for participants.
Contact a local syringe service provider regarding disposal.
