Held virtually and held three times per academic year. Progress testing, orientation, education and testing (POET), during this time we work with approximately 60 students who are scheduled to rotate through psychiatry clerkship. The students receive a large group orientation to the clerkship, education on the bio-psycho-social model of formulating patient problems, and time to ask questions about the clerkship. Then they transition to small group teaching with psychiatry faculty on developing a Psychiatric HPI and MSE.

Operation Bushmaster serves as a cumulative exercise for senior students in the school of medicine and graduate school of nursing, giving students a chance to integrate their years of training in military and medical skills in an intense field scenario. Faculty volunteers from Psychiatry serve as coaches and monitor Psychiatry residents who are directly teaching Combat Operational Stress Control principles and skills to the students participating in Operation Bushmaster.
