Welcome to the AGROBIOFOR (FAPESP-JST) Project website!
This project aims to target sustainable agriculture in the Amazon biome by evaluating agroforestry systems (AFS), connecting soil health with fruit quality for a bioeconomy assessment in the Amazonia region (Pará/Brazil). The specific focus will be on the microbial diversity of Amazonian soils as well as soil's chemical, physical and biological characteristics and their relationship with plant mineral status and productivity, in a process known as plant-soil-feedback. Production of fruits such as Cacao and Açaí in the Amazon will also be assessed. Field work will be performed thanks to the partnership with the Tomé-Açú Agricultural Cooperative (CAMTA) and analysis will include consolidated research institutes such as Embrapa-Oriental Amazon, INPA, UEA and USP, in Brazil, as well as NAIST and KPU, in Japan.
The Tomé-Açú Agricultural Cooperative (CAMTA) was founded by Japanese immigrants and has been working for more than 90 years to develop sustainable agriculture and the implementation of agroforestry systems. CAMTA is a partner for the execution of this project, making available the experimental areas for research and the traditional knowledge of local producers, with a history of success in agroforestry based on tropical fruits.
