The Naval Academy is unique in that the physical development of Midshipmen is one of the three pillars of the mission. We believe that physical fitness leads to disciplined minds: A lifestyle of fitness is a key piece of educating officers and instilling them with the Naval Service core values: Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
Goal: Maintain and support the mission to meet the needs of the Navy and marine corps
Produce graduates who are physically fit and committed to lifelong discipline of mind, body, and character
Provide exemplary programs of athletic competition and physical challenge that foster decisive leadership, teamwork, character and a passion for “winning.”
Support the state of the art physiology laboratory
Lead Navy fitness and drive the Navy's Physical Fitness Assessment procedures through scientific research
Pursue funding to maintain world-class facilities, exercise equipment and nutritional support:
Aggressively pursue renovation of MacDonough Hall
Strive for state of the art physical mission facilities
Goal: Support the commissioning of officers into the Naval Service
Recruit, hire, and retain faculty and staff who competed and achieved national recognition in their sport
Encourage Physical Education faculty and staff to coach midshipmen at the national and international level
Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to midshipmen
Encourage faculty and staff to support the physical development of midshipmen taking advantage of "Profs to Practice" and attending Navy Sporting events
Goal: Develop Midshipmen in leadership and character such that they are recognized as leaders
Provide coaching and leadership that develops and inspires our midshipmen
Prepare midshipmen to develop their sailors' and marines' physical fitness while serving in the fleet
