By April 18, 2022: Students receive practicum opportunities that are available for the following term
-Students who want to pursue practicum opportunities offered by our network of HESA Campus Partners will have access to the practicum descriptions via the website: https://sites.google.com/usfca.edu/usfca-hesa/home/summer-and-fall-2022-practicum-experiences
-Students will apply for the positions by sending their cover letter and resumes directly to the practicum supervisors.
-From April 18 to May 31, supervisors and students will coordinate interviews (in-person, phone, or video) on their own.
Beginning May 9, 2022*: Practicum supervisors can directly offer practicum positions to students (for Summer 2022 or Fall 2022 opportunities) who have interviewed for the position. Once a match has been made, please notify the HESA Practicum Coordinator at HESApracticum@usfca.edu.
*Applying and interviewing for practicum opportunities may continue past this date, but some sites may already be filled.
June 1, 2022: Priority deadline to solidify Summer 2022 and/or Fall 2022 practicum placements (match email should be received by the HESA Practicum Coordinator from the supervisor)
By this date we aim to completely wrap up the practicum placement process (if possible - keep in touch with us at HESApracticum@usfca.edu should difficulties with this deadline arise).
By June 15, 2022 (Summer 2022) or September 15, 2022 (Fall 2022): Students solidify the launch of their practicum placement by submitting a completed Workplan & Goals Template (student submits to Canvas for the O&L 647 course/unit)

March 23 - May 1: Students reach out directly to supervisors to co-create practicum and develop a Practicum Proposal. This form should be reviewed and drafted through a meeting/discussion.
By May 1, 2022: Students or supervisors submit the Practicum Proposal form for a Summer 2022 co-created practicum to the HESA Practicum Coordinator for approval. Fall proposals accepted through August 1, 2022.
By May 15th: Practicum Coordinator sends approval (or feedback) for Summer 2022 co-created practicum proposals
For Fall 2022 proposals, this date is August 15th.

Students who enter the HESA program with significant higher education experience can petition to opt out of the 3-credit practicum sequence and enroll in a 3-credit elective as an alternative. The requirements and process to petition are outlined below.
Student is currently in a full-time position in or closely related to higher education (student cannot utilize internships such as those a part of the Student Affairs Internship Program - SAIP)
Student has significant full-time work experience in a higher education and/or educational leadership setting
Student can demonstrate proficiency in foundational NASPA/ACPA professional competencies
By October 1, 2022: Submit a current resume and cover letter detailing why you meet the opt out requirements and how an elective class would benefit your professional and/or scholarly development. Cover letters must include specific mention(s) of the NASPA/ACPA professional competencies.
Resume and cover letter should be emailed to the practicum coordinator at HESApracticum@usfca.edu and a team of HESA Faculty will make the final decision collectively.
Notes:
If a student’s petition is denied, they must complete the practicum sequence (O&L 645, 646, and 647).
If a student’s petition is approved, they can select any 3-credit course within the School of Education with the approval of their academic advisor.
