Health & Wellness for Kindergarten Readiness
Practice Handwashing
Teach children to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Encourage handwashing before eating, using the restroom, and after coughing or sneezing.
Use the Restroom Independently
Ensure your child can wipe properly, flush the toilet, and wash hands afterward.
Practice Healthy Routines
Establish a predictable Morning & Bedtime Routine to help children feel secure.
Children at this age typically need 10-12 hours of sleep per night.
Regular meal times with a variety of healthy foods support energy and growth.
Encourage water as the primary beverage throughout the day.
Emotional & Social Well-Being
Teach children to identify and express emotions (happy, sad, frustrated, scared).
Encourage sharing and taking turns in play.
Help them practice deep breathing or calming strategies when upset.
Health & Safety in School
Keep children home if they have a fever (100.4°F or higher), vomiting, or other contagious symptoms.
If your child needs medication during the school day, contact the school nurse for the required forms.
Inform the school nurse about any allergies, asthma, or other medical conditions.
