9.10.25 Integrate trusted sources into Canvas
How are you feeling about your online classroom? Are you using Canvas? And if so, is it the easiest to navigate? Visually appealing?
I stumbled across Lauren, the Canvas Queen, on YouTube while setting up the Canvas course for our Library student aides, and I am so glad I did. She has introductory videos: everything you need to know, Canvas made simple, and even design videos. I personally used her “Create a Canvas Home Page Quickly with Canva” this year.
Give her a follow, and be sure to share any fun tips or tricks you learn with the group!

2.3.25 Integrate trusted sources into Canvas
WRHS subscribes to Global Issues, Opposing Viewpoints and Science databases from the Gale company.
Watch the short video, under 2 minutes, about how to integrate any or all of those items in your Canvas classrooms.

12.4.24 Canvas: Closing up a Canvas course at the end of a semester. Sarah Thomas
For CANVAS users
Please do not hit the “Conclude course” button.
For teachers who did not cross list, the courses will automatically conclude on January 3rd for the 1st semester (this is set by term dates in IC).
For teachers who cross-listed and DO NOT want students to have access to the course during the 2nd semester, UNPUBLISH the course
For teachers who cross-listed and DO want students to have access to the course from the 1st semester during the 2nd semester, leave it as is and do nothing.
Cross listed courses will automatically conclude during the summer.
8.21.24 Canvas: Parent Access - Sarah Thomas & Marcy Sandberg
Canvas allows parents to sign up for Observer accounts to view their student's assignments, course events, and grades. This work aid offers step by step instructions.
5.21.24 - Shutting down your Canvas courses or Google Classrooms for the year
For Canvas users: Please do not hit “Conclude course!”
For teachers who DID NOT cross-list their courses:
The term dates are automatically set by Infinite Campus and your courses will conclude automatically on May 30.
For teachers who DID cross-list their courses:
Nicole Richmond is working with Jeff Hinshaw to attempt to automate the process of de-cross-listing the courses. If they are unable to automate the process, Nicole will manually de-cross-list courses. When courses are de-cross-listed, they return to their original Infinite Campus courses and will automatically conclude on May 30.
The course content that you created this year will be accessible next year. If you used a master course, the content will stay in the master course and we will provide guidance at the beginning of next year on how to set up your new courses with the master course. If you did not use a master course, you will be able to copy the content from this year's courses to next year's courses.

1.17.24 Canvas lockdown browser, Respondus, provides test security - Heather Stessman
Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. When students use Respondus for an online exam, they are unable to navigate away from the test page, open new tabs, access other applications, or perform functions like copy-pasting, printing, or taking screen captures. This browser ensures that online assessments are conducted fairly and securely.
Integration with Canvas LMS is smooth and straightforward. Teachers can easily set up an exam in Canvas to require the use of Respondus by following this work aid. Once this setting is enabled, students attempting to take the exam are prompted to open the Respondus browser. If they haven’t installed it yet, they’re guided through the download and installation process. The exam won’t open in any other browser, ensuring that all the built-in security measures are in place before the test begins.
By locking down the browser, Respondus prevents a wide range of cheating methods, such as browsing the internet for answers, accessing unauthorized software, or communicating with others during the exam.
1.17.24 Importing Google Form scores into Canvas- Sarah Thomas
All you Canvas users who do not want to switch all of your Google Forms into Canvas Quizes, check out this video that explains how to upload scores from Google Forms into the Canvas Gradebook.
As you create new material, you may want to consider creating it in Canvas Quizes. This video steps us through the process.
As always, please reach out to Heather and me if you have questions.
8.29.23 - Sarah Thomas
Canvas Users For those who plan on using QUIZZES within Canvas for finals or any tests, you may know that Snap and Read doesn’t work with the lockdown browser. The good news is Nicole Taylor found an alternative for students who need this accommodation. Here is what we need to know.
NVDA is a free reader that is like Snap&Read but for Quizzes built with Canvas.
If you provide a link to a Google Form/Quiz, Snap&Read still works. Be sure to launch Snap&Read before the quiz.
Snap&Read will work on any assignments in Canvas but will not work with Respondus (locked test) in Canvas. Use NVDA reader instead. As students, NVDA can not be added. Please read on.
There is a set of Laptops with Respondus and NVDA reader installed located in the library labeled HSLAP94-100. These are available ONLY for checkout - All Students can check these out.
There is a cart located in the Suite (C220) that will be available for student use ONLY with teacher permission. These can be used for students with 504/IEP.
Any student using this resource will need either earbuds or a quiet place to be able to listen to the test being read aloud.
Nicole Taylor is willing to meet with anyone who would like a demonstration (student or teacher)
Nicole created a Help Document here. She will update it as things are tested and if changes need to be made.
