3rd, 4th & 5th Grade

Battle of the Books is a fun reading challenge where students team up to read a selected list of books and then put their book knowledge to the test in a friendly competition! It’s a great way to discover new books, read with a purpose, and work together as a team. More information, including book lists and participation details, will be shared in January!

All Grades

1. Get the book – Check our library, borrow from the public library, buy a copy, or use one you already own.

2. Read or listen – Read it by yourself, with friends, family, or listen to the audiobook.

3. Talk about it – Share your thoughts with classmates, teachers, or anyone else reading it.

4. Celebrate & find out the next book – Join us at the end-of-month meeting to discuss and hear the next pick.

November Pick:

A Rover's Story by Jasmine Warga

Resilience is a Mars rover built to explore—not to have human emotions. But as he learns from the NASA scientists who assemble him, he begins to develop feelings of his own. When launch day arrives, Res heads to Mars with a friendly drone helicopter named Fly. Facing dust storms, giant cliffs, and unexpected challenges, Res must find the courage and determination to complete his mission—and survive.

We meet on November 30 at 3 PM.

5th Grade

Once a week, students can bring their lunch to the library and listen to an audiobook while they eat.

This year, we’ll be listening to The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani. In 1947, 12-year-old Nisha’s world changes when British India is divided into India and Pakistan. As violence surrounding Partition forces her Hindu family to flee their home—and leave behind someone she loves—Nisha records her fears and hopes in letters to the mother she never knew. Along the dangerous journey across a brand-new border, she discovers hidden truths about her family and a strength she didn’t know she had.
