Students can earn badges as they master skills (100 Smart Score is mastery), completing practice sessions, and reach other various milestones, all of which can be viewed in the Awards tab.
IXL Certificates
IXL also generates certificates for students. Students can earn certificates by reaching milestones related to practicing skills, time spent practicing, and completing a certain number of questions.
These can be accessed by first clicking on Learning, and then moving to the Awards tab. From there you can view and print earned certificates. There is a section for the Certificates Center, then you will hit 'View Certificate' next to the one you'd like to see. Then you can print it out and give it to the student to take home or display in the classroom!
Other Engagement Strategies
IXL offers Leaderboards as one way to engage students. These can be customized for the goals that the classroom teacher sees fit, whether this is to encourage whole-class review before a test or engagement at home as well. It updates live so students can monitor their standing in the leaderboard at any given time 24/7.
You can have more than one leaderboard going at a time. It can be customized to the subject matter you are teaching, the grade levels you teach (so student's aren't redoing Pre-K skills, when they're in fifth grade for example), and to the parameters you want (such as skills proficient, skills mastered, and number of questions answered correctly).
IXL Jams are another tool teachers can use. There are two types:
Lightning Jam
Group Jam
The Lightning Jam is a tool educators can use where all students see the same question at the same time, and they race to be the first ones to answer correctly.
The Group Jam has all students see the same question at the same time, but there is no racing element involved.
In both Jams the teacher controls the pace of when the students may move on and access the next question.
IXL provides games for students to play through ABCYA.
These are all games based on skill students are working on. These are located by clicking on the subject, then the skill page for the grade level you are in. Then on the top right corner of that screen, there is an icon with a small spaceship. This will tell you how many games available, and when you click, will take you to the options.
