This is one of my all time favorite historical fiction books. I created this thinking I might use it with my class, but after rereading it, I decided this would make a much better novel study for students in middle school and beyond.

This book is a part of 5th Grade Wonders curriculum. We read the entire novel, so I created a digital packet to go along with the story. I paced this where students could read about 2 chapters a day and respond to some questions and writing prompts. I sprinkle writing prompts in so my class can really focus on generating ideas and finding evidence to support those ideas in order to write 3-5 solid sentences. We work on writing transitions, conventions (spelling and punctuation), and grammar.
There are fewer questions for the last several chapters of this book because I always plan a book project, such as a novel study tic-tac-toe. *This novel study does not include a book project.

This novel study by The Book Umbrella is amazing and I couldn't rave enough about it!
This book is set during the Revolutionary War and is based on true events. In fact, all the people and events in this story are historically accurate, with the exception of Sophia herself. Sophia is a work of fiction used to piece together two true historical events.
*Special Note: I do not recommend this for a read-a-loud. Sophia (12 yrs of age) has affections for a Lieutenant that is billeted in her home. I don't know his age, though I imagine he is at least 18 or older.
