Over the past year, the USD 299 Board of Education has been reviewing facility conditions and needs of the district. This includes both our grade school in Lucas and our high school in Sylvan Grove. Last spring, a firm was hired to conduct a facility assessment. The assessment was delivered to the board in August. After reviewing the assessment, the board formed a facilities committee.
The committee was composed of community members, school staff and board members representing the district. They have met weekly over the last two months to determine and make recommendations to the board current and future infrastructure needs. The committee has also investigated potential ways to finance those needs, including a potential bond election to address these needs. The committee’s recommendations were reported to the board at their November board meeting.
The USD 299 board of education has scheduled a public board meeting on December 1st, to discuss whether the district should pursue a potential bond election to address facility needs. No final decision has been made. The purpose of the meeting is to review information, discuss options, and determine the best possible direction moving forward.
Your participation and input are valued as the Board considers future planning for USD 299 schools.
