October 12, 2023 our STEAM bus travelled to Sunflower Elementary to join their family STEAM night. Watching the bus travel from Ottawa High School to Sunflower provided several opportunities of head turns as the very colorful bus is hard to miss! When we arrived at Sunflower, the last of the students were on the last bus home and very much wanted to exit their current bus to hop on the STEAM bus!
Our evening was fun of learning for our families as our NHS and CTE Teacher Trainer students provided lessons about wind, pinwheels, marble mazes, corn and paper airplane competitions. Our CTE graphic design students created laser engraved block prints for more artistic opportunities.
Our STEAM bus will NEVER be finished... it will always be a learning space for students. We can't wait for our next invitation to provide STEAM learning. Thanks Sunflower PTO for the invite. We had a great time!
The KTOY Finalist Team stopped by the STEAM bus to learn about our vision and CTE student progress this year. Our list to do is much shorter but our work ahead is great!
Always glad to share our story - thanks for adding the STEAM bus to your busy day at USD290.
These students and teachers worked every day on all of the little details to reach this point.
Truly learning by doing as their collaboration and communication skills were developed as they worked with each other, their teachers, Knox Signs & Graphics, administration, maintenance and more. While several students are graduating this year, we are excited to see the work and creativity continue with each new chapter.
January 2022 - Thank you to Kalmar Ottawa for your donation toward our future engineering activities! We are excited to have your support and participation in our learning!
Ottawa High School students started with this bus and are creating a mobile STEAM learning lab. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
As the high school students in the Auto Tech and Design classes create this mobile learning lab from SCRATCH - they are experiencing hands on activities supporting communication, collaboration, problem solving and more. We are building the STEAM bus to visit the district elementary schools, county events & neighboring school districts, local businesses, education events and many more learning opportunities.
The "teaching" on the bus will be facilitated by high school students. This project is a collaborative learning adventure for ALL! We are excited to see it in action.
