Can you fulfill the task or answer each of these questions? If you can, YOU ARE READY TO TEST FOR PERIOD 1
MUST KNOW DATES Period 1: 1491-1607
1491: symbolic date describing the Americas before the arrival of the Europeans
1607: the establishment of the first British colony in North America: Jamestown.
All content, practices, and mastery checks must be completed by this date. NO EXCEPTIONS without communicating with Doc Rogers drogers@usd259.net
These resources will help students to navigate the Short Answer (SAQ) portion of the AP Exam. Students are required to answer three (3) of the SAQs offered on the exam. Students will have 40 minutes to answer all 3 questions. Each question is broken down into 3 specific tasks. Students are not expected to write an intro or thesis for each of the tasks, they must simply answer the question in 50-75 words. Here is how they are organized:
Question will have a Secondary Source (usually 1 or 2 historical analyses of a topic) that students will have to analyze and interpret.
Question will have a primary source that students will have to analyze and interpret.
Students will choose between two different SAQs that have NO STIMULI. Students MUST answer one of the two options for the 3rd SAQ.
A student would be expected to answer all three tasks with 3-5 sentences or 50-75 words for each task
Identify - your claim by directly answering the question.
Describe - your claim with specific historical evidence
Connect - Connect your claim with historical context
This received full marks 3/3
Notice the different sections of each answer and how each specific task is clearly answered with a SPECIFIC piece of historical evidence!
Examples of historical evidence:
"Irish immigrants escaping the potato famine came to the US to get jobs."
This would get the point! This is a SPECIFIC example
" Immigrants came to the United States to get jobs." This would NOT get the point! Why? TOO GENERAL!!
Students can make MINOR grammatical and historical errors on the SAQ and still get the point due to the timed nature of the test. HOWEVER these are often subject to the rater and table leader. Be as sure as you can of what you are saying!
Also the entire short answer MUST fit into the space provided. If a student writes outside the box, it is possible that the answer will not count. Also answers MUST be submitted in blue or black ink pen
Let's try one! We can do it! When you have completed your notes and readings for Period 1, click on the button below, which will take you to an SAQ you will write BY HAND using all that we have learned above. Pick up a copy of the SAQ paper from the Historical library at the front of the room. NOTE Doc Rogers will NOT open the SAQ until Friday Sept 1st! If you open it before, you will not be allowed to see it. SAQ practice must be submitted to Doc Rogers at the end of class on September 1st!
