The TTS ELA Nonvisual Accommodation is an accommodation that provides a text reader for ALL text and questions on the Kansas ELA Assessment. Students with a significant visual impairment and/or students who fit the KDSE definition of a nonreader may have an application sent to KSDE on their behalf (the "TTS Checklist", provided below). The approval (or plan to apply) must be documented in the IEP/504 plan and submitted to KSDE each year by January 31st. Please check with your building coordinator/SIS for specific deadlines.
Please review the application form below carefully to determine whether or not your student may be a candidate for this accommodation. An application must be made each year.
To qualify, a student must meet the criteria outlined in the KSDE Fact Sheet (below). Please review the Fact Sheet carefully to determine whether or not your student is eligible.
In addition:
USD232 requires that a student has been referred to the AT Specialist (referrals should be made well before the KSDE application due date).
KSDE requires explicit documentation of the need for TTS within the IEP.
For students with IEPs, UPAR results must be included in the PLAAFP, along with a statement indicating the team's intent to apply for the KSDE Nonvisual accommodation for the ELA KAP assessment.
The TTS Nonvisual Accommodation: IEP documentation should be used for each IEP (as applicable).
KSDE continues to update information regularly. Updates will be posted below; however, staff are encouraged to check the KSDE website for the latest information.
