I love country music. Now saying that, I don’t identify with the country music of Florida Georgia Line and Kane Brown. No, I’m talking about deep Texas, red dirt country. I also like all the traditional country boy likes. I like trucks, hunting, farming, and working. I do differ from the path of the traditional country boy; I have a passion for math and science which led me to the decision of mechanical engineering…plus I like farm equipment and think it would be pretty cool to design it. I like to think of myself as a well-rounded young man.
I gained most of my passions I see in myself today through my two brothers-in -law, Rodney and Michael. I see my obsession for the Texas Country and woodworking that both come from Rodney. I see my passion for hunting and everything to do with the outdoors come from Michael. I sometimes look back and wonder what it would be like if my sisters hadn’t have brought me two brothers at a young. The truth is that the reality of that scares me of how I would be today. All the credit for who I am today obviously doesn’t all go to the brothers-in-laws. My love for equipment mostly came from my uncle Kim and my cousin Anthony. Together they have brought me into their dozing business and installed in me the love for equipment.
I mentioned earlier how I differ from the traditional country boy path, yes, I do love math and science. When I was little, I remember finding an MIT course on Quantum Mechanics and taking notes through the whole course (Even though I had no clue half the time what they were talking about). Back then, I wanted to be a theoretical physicist, my saying always was I was going to be the only student on the MIT campus in cowboy boots. I have now found my happy in between going to Kansas State University for Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Agricultural Technology Management. I believe this will keep me happy because of working in the agricultural sector and still dealing with math and science.
Throughout my high school career, I look back and see one defining feature. That feature is what I know and love as The National FFA Organization. I am very fortunate that the FFA came to Nemaha Central. Being a new chapter when I was a freshman, I have got to see the chapter grow massively within just the first four years. I am proud to say that I was one of the original “founders” of the Nemaha Central FFA Chapter. To define this proudness, I always show people a picture of me and one of my fellow officers my freshman year on the Kansas State FFA Convention stage receiving our signed chapter charter. In that picture, I am grinning from ear to ear. That is one moment I hope I never forget.
At this point in my life, I have had a great time with my family and friends. I feel as if looking back on the last 18 years there should be an Andy Grammar song in the background. If you don’t know who Andy is, he is one of the artists you have heard in a graduation reflection video. I love who I am and love my life. I may have a ton of interests and that sometimes may aggrevate me when I am trying to decide what to put on my Christmas list, but the truth is, I hope I never change. Even if it does mean listening to Pop one minute then 1960’s country the next.
