The STEM-1E Program is a scholarship program designed to provide financial support to South Dakota students (rising 6th-12th graders) who would like to attend a summer STEM-based sleepaway camp.
Each recipient of the STEM-1E scholarship will receive up to $500 towards the registration/tuition cost of one of the approved STEM-based sleepaway camps in South Dakota.
The following is a list of approved camps for which STEM-1E scholarship funds can be used--
DSU Cyber Camp for Middle School Boys
DSU Cyber Camp for Middle School Girls
DSU Cyber Camp for High Schoolers
Governor's Camp (Hosted by USD)
Youth Engineering and Technology Career Exploration (Hosted by SDSU)
The STEM-1E Program will award a maximum of 50 scholarships.
The application review committee will consider the following questions when evaluating scholarship applications--
Would the student be a first-time camper at the camp they would like to attend?
Does the student have an identified financial need that may prevent them from attending without the scholarship?
To what extent has the student previously shown interest in STEM?
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis with the first decisions going out during the first week of March.
