The Korean Alphabet System

USC Korean language program invites you to learn more about 한글(Hangeul) in the event of celebrating the 577th Korean Alphabet Day. 한글날(HangeulNal) is annually observed in South Korea on October 9 to commemorate the invention and proclamation of the Korean Alphabet system.

At this event, you will have the opportunity to experience Korean handwriting; create bracelets using Korean consonant and vowel beads; and craft personalized badges for unique keepsakes. Also, traditional Korean games and delicious Korean snacks will be provided!

A special treat is provided at our 2023 Hangul Day event! A professional Korean calligrapher will be on hand to beautifully handwrite up to 150 attendees' names in Korean on unique souvenirs, 부채 (BuChae, paper hand fan). It's first-come, first served, so don't miss your chance to have a memorable gift. Come on over to the calligraphy station! It can also be an excellent sample to try at the Korean handwriting contest workstation for fun and enjoyment.

A casual Korean handwriting contest will kick off at 10:40 AM and run through 1:15 PM. This contest is all for fun and enjoyment; if you submit your on-site creation, the event hosts including the USC Korean language faculty will evaluate all entries and pick the five best Korean handwritings to award special gifts. This contest is open to all USC Trojans.

Join us and enjoy our celebration of the Korean language and culture!

* Please note that attendance at this event implies your consent for the use of photos and videos that may include your likeness.
