Describe the plan your group used to build the project.
We started by splitting up the work based on the skill sets of the members. We used our design notebooks to help design and brainstorm all of our ideas and put them on paper. Then we had a peer review the design and started constructing the actual object. We used our group members as needed and made sure we all had a part in all of the projects.
How did you incorporate the Design strategies from the textbook (Ch 21-26)?
We used a lot of the design notebook this week, because there were a lot of ideas for the fins of the rocket and other areas of the projects that people disagreed on. We usually went with the majority vote on which design we would use. We also brainstormed a lot and collaborated on every project we had this week.
Describe the process your group used to accomplish the task.
We first split the work, then we brainstormed ideas, then we started working and came against problems almost every hour, we then worked together to push through any barriers that presented themselves.
Describe how the principles you used to build the project and apply to the engineering fields you studied
We used a lot of physics and laws of aerodynamics to construct our rocket, airplane, and motorized plane, we also used a lot of basic coding principles to code our drone. The physics and aerodynamics really apply to the engineering fields we studied this week because you need to know the laws and work with them rather than against them to succeed in this weeks projects .
Each member’s role in the project.
Yuna started on the CAD modeling of the carbon capture device, she then moved to the construction of the paper airplane and the stomp rocket. Ryan worked on the coding of the drone but then moved to the rocket after he was finished. Andy worked on the IEEE but then moved to the motorized airplane when he was finished. Caleb worked on the stomp rocket, motorized airplane, and the styrofome airplane, but then moved to the rocket when he was finished. Sabrina worked on the rocket.
Describe the successes and the obstacles your team encountered and how your team overcame the obstacles.
Our team faced a lot of success in everything but the rocket, our projects were going very well but then the rocket was where we faced a lot of obstacles. Our group whole group should have been more involved in the rocket as there were some major flaws with our first design, but we overcame this obstacle by combining brain power to then successfully launch a rocket without failure.
What would your next steps be to improve your project?
Our next step would be to make this a 2 stage rocket to then move higher and higher into the sky.
Describe the lessons that you learned and how you will apply these lessons to future projects.
We learned that working together and sharing ideas is a lot more efficient than working alone. This impacted us greatly as some ideas at the start were not very efficient, which we would soon learn and then fix the problems as they came up.
Knowing what you know now, how would you start your project differently?
I would have started the project differently by pairing up and doing each project as a pair instead of splitting it all up so we could have someone there to always keep us in check to see our design flaws or successes
