The plant treats water from a ten house neighborhood on a five acre plot of land.
The total greywater collected from baths, showers, and washing machines in the neighborhood is an estimated 21,600 gallons of water per month.
The total stormwater collected from the neighborhood, considering rainfall and landscaping runoff is an estimated 67,860 gallons per month.
In total the plant will process and redistribute around 90,000 gallons of water per month.
First, the stormwater collected will pass through a filtration screen that extracts large solids like trash and debris .
Next, the stormwater and greywater converge and pass through a more refined filtration screen to separate smaller solids.
The water then passes through a four stage clarification process in which the remaining sludge is separated from the water, and the oil and soap from the greywater and stormwater is removed.
After the water passes through the clarification process, it is disinfected from pathogens and viruses using a monochloramine treatment.
Then, the water is stored in holding tanks and redistributed to families for use in their toilets, yards, and washing machines. And any leftover water is distributed to farms in the surrounding towns.
