SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) at URI was founded in the spring of 2021. Since then we have organized a talented team full of passionate and astute individuals from all engineering disciplines as well as other majors including, but not limited to, computer science and business. We challenge our members to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with Formula SAE style race cars. Our team offers URI students of all backgrounds an opportunity to gain real world engineering and teamwork skills. The atmosphere and welcoming environment is something we are proud of achieving as this will allow our members to feel included, and supported as they reach their full potential.
Our vision is to set the foundation for future generations of URI students to continue developing the vehicle. The main goal for this term is to have a car fully engineered and fabricated to attend and compete in the 2025 Formula SAE Series in Michigan. This international competition gathers over 150 teams and 2,500+ participants from 20+ countries. It allows students to expand their creative and engineering skills to the fullest and completely design every aspect of our vehicle to succeed in a variety of performance tests against other universities. As of present day, The University of Rhode Island has never had a team participate in the SAE competitions. We are proud to say that we will become the first ever team at URI to build and compete with a Formula SAE racecar. This only further inspires our already determined and hard-working team members to make history at our university!
