Relive our free drop-in exhibition of multilingual Kafka-inspired comics and stories in Swan Hall!
Kafka was a wordsmith and so much more! He loved visual culture, drawing and going to the cinema! So, it should perhaps come as no surprise that his life and works have inspired comics artists and graphic novelists from around the world, including Canada, France and Japan!
All his main literary works have been adapted into comics form – in a range of styles – at least once, if not several times, with his best-known story, Die Verwandlung, or The Metamorphosis, leading the field.
At times, fictional characters in the comics bear a striking physical resemblance to Franz Kafka himself, or have personal lives that strongly resemble that of the writer. Check out the Kafka Comics exhibition at URI for some examples!
