As a college student in the United States, spending a lump sum to further my education with the idea that I will earn a higher salary than my non-collegiate peers. I find it disheartening that I may make less than non-collegiate males, or men equivalent in education. I believe this is an important issue worth advocating for and I will cover three main points; why the gender pay gap is affected by motherhood, how the pandemic has worsened the pay gap, and how education affects the pay gap. My goal is to inform the general public of the many layers within this issue as well as entice others to advocate for change.

A few years ago, when I was working at a country club for the summer, I personally watched one of my friends get passed over for manager of the club. She had been working at the club for over five years, never missed a day of work, and was loved by all of the staff and customers. the truth of the matter was she was a woman and our boss believed that women had no place being in charge of staff or a business. Watching the discrimination that my friend went through for being a woman made me realize the reality of discrimination in the workplace and that discrimination in the workplace doesn't just happen in the corporate world.
Unpaid Labor is primarily caused by men's lack of knowledge of what a day looks like for their wives. The issue with not educating the world is what sets us back from benefiting from the luxury of everyone coming together and being equal. Developed countries have minor issues with unpaid labor simply because men are more educated on the fact that house work is equally as hard or sometimes harder.
Unequal access to quality education for women and girls is harmful to everyone, as it can result in multiple negative long-term consequences for entire communities. Without access to education, or the opportunity to fully complete it, women face increased hardships that restrict their freedoms and ability to participate more fully in society.
Trade is something that is typically not in the forefront of our minds. Yet, we wouldn't have a majority of the luxurious things we have today and right now if it wasn't for international trade. Women and girls play a huge role in the trade industry internationally and some of the industries effects on women can be against them, yet occasionally can benefit women as well.
Throughout history, women have played a vital role in our country. However, much of these successes have been overlooked. This page aims to acknowledge the acomplishments of women in the workforce throughout the history of the United States.
