Food insecurity: is the availability of food in a country & the ability of individuals within that country to access, afford, & source adequate food/a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active & healthy life
"The Food & Agricultural Organization of the UN is a specialized agency that is apart of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and gain food security"
Their goal is to defeat hunger internationally; for all to have access to enough high quality food to live active healthy lifestyles
Firstly GBV mainly affects women and girls in their "productive & reproductive years"
This compromises their ability to be good and productive workers, caregivers, and income earners
Which restarts the cycle of poverty; jeopardizing goals towards food security for all
Secondly any periods of extended crises typically increase and start many forms of GBV
This leaves devastating impacts on communities as female workers are now injured, ill, or facing stigmas/discrimination
Not all victims of GBV are survivors
Their main focuses are: food security & nutrition, poverty alleviation, restoration & strengthening of rural livelihoods
Some steps they are taking:
Increasing access to productive resources & services
Which are natural, human & capital resources used to make goods
Better access to rural institutions
Which help shape the rules that govern social & economic exchange
Ensuring women are part of & have a say in policy-making decisions/processes
Increasing women's access to economic opportunities
Which in turn can improve their individual & household well-beings
