UHS Silver Cord Program
The Silver Cord is a distinguished graduation award available to Urbandale High School students who volunteer at least 160 hours during high school. Upon completion, participants receive a Silver Cord to wear at graduation in recognition of their achievements.
Students may start earning hours the day after they finish 8th grade. To sign up, click the Get Started tab on the top of this page. Silver Cord will communicate with students via email blasts to their SCHOOL EMAIL. Please check that regularly! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org at any time with questions.
There are so many places you can help!
To qualify as Silver Cord hours, volunteer work must fulfill a need with a non-profit agency, school, church, or community organization. Hours must be turned in within 90 days of completion. Some flexibility is being given during times of restricted gatherings and social distancing -- we will work with you, so please contact us at silvercord@urbandalenetwork if you have questions!
Volunteer service will not qualify if performed for an individual (relative, neighbor), for a for-profit business or event, or during a worship service. Work will not qualify as Silver Cord hours if a varsity letter, school credit, grade, or financial compensation is given.
For more information, please see the Qualifying Hours page.
