Getting Started

WELCOME to Silver Cord!

REQUIREMENTS: In order to earn your Silver Cord at graduation, you must document 160 total volunteer hours at least 5 different non-profit organizations. Volunteering can be done at almost any non-profit organization, church, or school. Students cannot count hours towards their silver cord if they are earning monetary compensation, class credit, or varsity letter points for the work they perform. If you have any questions about whether hours can be applied, please email me at this address prior to volunteering. We also encourage students to find their own volunteer opportunities. See below links for a few organizations that are really hoping for some good help in the next few days and/or weeks. That way you can get started right away!

SUBMITTING HOURS: See website UHS Silver Cord Site - Qualifying Hours (google.com)

INTEGRITY: Students in the Silver Cord program should always keep in mind that when they volunteer, they are representing UHS and their peers. If students commit to volunteer jobs, they should make every effort to be there and if an emergency arises, they should contact the event coordinator. Many organizations depend on our volunteers to help their events run smoothly!

We are so excited that you are committed to giving back to your community. Future employers and colleges value this commitment. Please feel free to send any questions about the Silver Cord program to me at this address and I'll get back to you right away. Keep on doing good!
