THE PROCESS

Step 1

DOWNLOAD AND REGISTER ON THE APP

App is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store under the name of ROCS Carpool.

You can reserve as a driver or as a rider.

In the reservation you will establish the times to be at the parking, the location, and car information (if applicable).
A driver is a person who has a personal vehicle and drives the carpool to and from the university.
A rider is a person who's picked up and brought to and from the university in the carpool.

Important Considerations:

The time you input in the app represents the time when the car needs to be INSIDE the parking.
The matching system does not take into consideration time needed to pick up or drop off, just time the car is inside the parking lot.

Drivers:

Vehicle must abide to Puerto Rico vehicle laws (license and registration).
Vehicle must be in good and safe conditions.
Reservation as a driver does not guarantee being selected as a driver (i.e., a possible driver might become a passenger for another driver)

Step 3

Confirmations include the carpool information, including drivers and riders.

Carpool matching is performed by an optimization model developed by the ROCS team.
The optimization model is centered around minimizing the driver's travelling distance.
The system works both ways- drivers who pick up people to take them to the university also have to drop off people from the university.

Step 4

Selected drivers need to pick up passangers that were selected by the app. Further questions and instructions can be found here.

System-chosen driver has to pick up passangers before arriving at the university.
The application tracks user location to identify that ALL members of a carpool are with the assigned driver at the moment the car should be entering the parking area.

Step 6

Selected drivers and passangers for a carpool meet at the parking lot. Selected driver drops off passangers at each of their respective locations.

System chosen carpool (passengers and driver) meet up at the parking location.
The driver has to drop off each passanger at their respective location, provided by the app.
