VA Caribbean Healthcare System Hospital
Research Assistant | Introductory Research Program (IRP) (2015 – 2016)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Lissette Jimenez, assigned by the Introductory Research Program for undergraduates in the VA Caribbean Healthcare System Hospital in San Juan, where I explored the relationship of sleep apnea and strokes in Veteran patients, and the impact in their driving. I received various research training workshops as well as part of the program.
University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus
Research Assistant | RCMI Institute (2015 – 2016)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Emma Fernandez in the 3D printing area for biomedical models and applications. I used programs such as Cura and Repetier Host for design and printing. I also worked as a leader and tutor offering a workshop for undergraduate students during a comprehensive 4-week program teaching the basics of how to do 3D printing for biomedical modeling.
University of Puerto Rico, Cayey Campus
Research Assistant | Dr. Chiesa’s Laboratory (2015 – 2017)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Ricardo Chiesa where I worked studying anxiety-related behavior induced by ethanol in the Drosophila melanogaster fly for further application of the study model in humans. Our mission was to test experimentally if selected brown algae from the coasts of Puerto Rico worked in D. melanogaster as a reliable method for reducing the locomotion provoked by ethanol.
Research Assistant | Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (III) (2014 – 2017)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Mariluz Franco where I explored the relationship between access and retention of undergraduate students and socioeconomic inequality or disadvantage, and also explored the relationship between undergraduate education and poverty.
Research Assistant | Biomat Lab UPR-Cayey (2014 – 2017)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Mayteé Cruz where we created a mathematical meta-population SIR model in order to study the spread and procreation of Dengue in Puerto Rico using connectivity networks and epidemiological data.
Research Assistant | Dr. Rodriguez’s Laboratory (2013 – 2014)
I was a research assistant in the project of Dr. Enrique Rodríguez-Cruz where explored the behavior of the Drosophila melanogaster fly when exposed to nicotine and alcohol.
