1. Major rural /District hospital report: 30%
This is a major comprehensive report of the rural health facility and its health care service delivery. It should be about a 15, 000-word document and it captures a multi-sectorial view of rural health services.
This report enables the medical student to view rural health as a matrix of complex inter-disciplinary involvement rather than a single functioning unit.
The student would realize that Partnership, networking, and collaboration with major stakeholders is key to rural health service delivery.
The final compilation of the written report carries 30% of the assessment.

2. Aid post write up: 10%
While on a rural block, students are to visit an Aid Post and write an Aid Post Report using the aid Post report format. This is a 3000-word document that focuses on the Aid Post as a facility, its structure, and its role in providing access to primary health care to communities. The aim is for the students to determine the functioning status of the Aid post. Students are to identify the strength and weaknesses of the facility, criticize and come up with a recommendation and a way forward. The Aid post report carries 10% of the assessment.
Write a brief report on an Aid post-visit using the format outlined below;

1 Introduction
▪ What is the research question? Identify the problem statement
▪ Why is this study important?
▪ What is known about this study? Background information from literature review or data review.
▪ What is the main objective(s) of your research?
▪ How can the results be useful or helpful?
▪ Who would benefit from the research findings
2 Methodology:
Step by step description in detail.
▪ Setting/ site
▪ Sampling-Selection of participants
▪ Inclusion and exclusion criteria
▪ Sample size
▪ How selected—randomly, or purposively, or by class (if in a school),
Data collection:
▪ Data collection too used- Questionnaire, focus group discussion, interviews
▪ Data Analysis- Software used
▪ All of this is in a logical sequence

▪ Use graphs or analysed tables.
▪ General description of results shown.
▪ Describe the key findings, by main variables according to research questions, objectives, hypotheses?

▪ Can you compare it with others findings or experiences from elsewhere in PNG or regionally/globally—past literature?

▪ Recommendations. Any recommendations from your conclusion? What should be done next? Or, what further do we need to improve the problem? Should be reasonable, given the resources. Should arise from your research!

▪ These three reports will be handed in for formal assessment. There will be a deadline for handing in reports.
▪ In addition, there will be marks for conduct and participation during the rural health course.
4. Individual Research Project presentation
▪ Each student will conduct research and submit a write-up for assessment. Research topics are to be related to rural health issues both descriptive and interventional.
▪ The research introduces the medical students to the scientific research format and the process of data collection and analysis.
▪ Research write-up will carry 20% of the assessment.
▪ The research will be presented by individual students as an oral presentation for 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes discussion.
5. Group presentation: Rural Health Report
▪ The group will do an oral presentation of a report on findings at the district or rural hospital with data interpretation and critical analysis of the situation at the health facility level.
▪ The aim is to enable students to collect information, data, and be able to criticize and analyze their findings with a recommendation.
▪ Each group will present for 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes discussion with strict timing. The Rural Health Report must be signed by all students, confirming that they contributed equally in the data gathering and preparation of the report.
▪ Group report carries a 20% score.
