Welcome to Theoretical and Computational Physics Research Group (T&C PRG), one of the important research groups in the Physics Department at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Our group is composed of four esteemed academic staff members, including Dr. Hishammuddin Zainuddin (retired, advisor to the group), Dr. Chan Kar Tim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurisya Mohd Shah, Dr. Umair Abdul Halim and Dr. Muhammad Amsyar Abdul Rahim each of whom brings a unique perspective and expertise to our research endeavors.
Our group is focused on exploring a diverse array of theoretical and computational research areas in the field of physics, including Density Functional Theory (DFT), Computation of Maass Cusp Form, Complex Network, Non Commutative Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Information Science, Group Theoretic Methods, Geometry of Quantum State, Quantum Complexity, Entanglement and Theoretical Quantum Optic.

Quantum Computing in the Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) Era
Paul Tan is a co-founder of AQSolotl Pte Ltd and the lead of quantum control at the National Quantum Computing Hub (NQCH), Singapore. He earned his MSc in Physics from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) studying superconducting qubit control and calibration under Rainer Dumke. His current research includes quantum control, quantum-classical hybrid computing and implementation of quantum error correction.
Challenges and Opportunities in Hybrid Quantum-Classical Algorithms for Financial Optimization and Machine Learning
Thiparat is a theoretical and computational physicist working on the intersection of physics, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and quantum information. He received his PhD in Theoretical Physics from Harvard. He currently leads the Chula Intelligent and Complex Systems Research Unit, and co-founded Quantum Technology Foundation (Thailand).
Quantum Machine Learning for Research on Climate Change
Choong Pak Shen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Mathematical Research (INSPEM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Besides, theoretical physics, he is interested in developing quantum use cases and gamification of quantum theory.

Weekly QuEST meeting is held every Thursday where the members take turns for academic sharing with other members alongside announcements on any recent matter including on conferences or lectures. During this endemic season, all QuEST meetings are held online.
