Prof. Dr. Kevin W. Eva (University of British Columbia, Canada)

Title: Flexible Student Admission in Health Professions Education

Dr. Kevin Eva is Professor in the Department of Medicine and Centre for Health Education Scholarship at the University of British Columbia. He completed his PhD in Cognitive Psychology in 2001 and became Editor-in-Chief for the journal Medical Education in 2008.

Dr. Eva’s core research theme addresses how to improve decision-making in health professional training and practice. Foci include studies of the value of subjectivity for assessing performance, the assessment of non-academic qualities, and the psychological processes that impact upon responsiveness to feedback. For this work he was recently awarded the Karolinska Prize for Research in Medical Education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhamad Saiful Bahri Yusoff (Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia)

Title: Flexible Learning Pathways:  Current Insights and Future Directions for Health Professions Education

He is Associate Professor and Head, Department of Medical Education, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is a medical doctor with Master of Science and PhD in Medical Education. He is the Editor in Chief of Education in Medicine Journal, the Regional Director of East Asia of International Society for Emotional Intelligence, Fellow of National Higher Education Research Institute, Fellow of Centre for Development of Academic Excellence, and a Visiting Professor at Universitas Indonesia. His areas of expertise are well-being in medical and higher education, curriculum, assessment, development and validation of measurement tools, emotional intelligence, student admission, educational psychology, and psychometric. He has published more than 200 publications and served as a reviewer to various reputable journals. He has been invited as a speaker for many conferences, seminars, and workshops at national and international levels. 

He is the recipient of many awards such as the Gold Medal for Reimagine Education Teaching Delivery Award 2016, Best of the Best Award and Gold Medal for International Innovative Practices in Higher Education 2016, Excellent Educator Award in 2016, International Leadership Award in 2017, Gold Medal Award for Innovative Practices in Higher Education 2014 and Ronald Harden Innovation in Medical Education Award in 2013. He is the President of Malaysian Association of Education in Medicine & Health Sciences (MAEMHS), the Regional Director of East Asia & National Coordinator of International Society for Emotional Intelligence and a Fellow of National Higher Education Research Institute. He completed a one-year medical education editorial internship program provided by Association for Study in Medical Education (ASME) and was awarded the executive education certificate on the Financial Analysis for Non-Financial Managers from INSEAD. In 2022, he was listed in the Top 2% Researchers in World list in the respective field by Stanford University.

Prof. Dr. Olle ten Cate (University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands)

Title: Introduction to CBME with Entrustable Professional Activities 

Olle ten Cate, PhD is a professor of medical education at University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands, and adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco. After medical school (MSc) and a PhD in social sciences, he served four decades at the Universities of Amsterdam and Utrecht, with curriculum innovation, educational research, and faculty development in health professions education (HPE), locally, nationally and internationally. He founded and led the Center for Research and Development of Education at UMC Utrecht (2005-2017), was president of the Netherlands Association for Medical Education (2006-2012), and published (450+) and presented (500+) widely and mentored 25 PhD students. He received the J.P. Hubbard award of the US NBME, the Ian R. Hart award, the NVMO Han Moll medal and a Dutch Royal Distinction and is a fellow of AERA. His interests include competency-based education, entrustable professional activities and entrustment decision making in HPE.
