SEA Teacher program is one of the programs held by SEAMEO (Southeast Asia Minister of Education Organization). The SEA Teacher Project or the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia” is a project that aims to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.
Based on the SEAMEO seven priority areas for the eleven SEAMEO Member countries to work together to improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia, “Revitalizing Teacher Education” is one of the priority areas in building and strengthening capacity of teachers in the region.
The exchange is preferably for 4th year students whose major are in math, science, English and pre-school. The duration is for one month and based on the mechanism of cost sharing basis. Students’ roles and responsibilities are assigned weekly during the one month period (observe, assist in teaching, teach and reflect). Moreover, the host universities will provide mentors to supervise and monitor the students throughout the practicum period.
My name is Nafisah Nurul Alfiyani, but my friends call me Naf. I was born in Cianjur, on September 28th, 2002. As the youngest child in the family, I have a responsibility to make my parents and my family proud of me. My study as a student teacher at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia was chosen by my mom. Suddenly, I found this program to make sure that my passion is to become a teacher. It was such a big decision in my life which could change everything.
By taking part in this program, I learned a lot of things and experienced new things that opened up my mind. I’m able to learn about the environment, culture, and educational system of another country, in this case, the Philippines. I’m able to determine the differences between the culture and the education. Therefore, challenges and adaptation made me a better version of myself as a human being and a student teacher.
