ACADEMIC SUPPORT SYSTEM
The Junior High Department of Saint Louis University, a coeducational junior high school, provides a variety of academic and extracurricular programs and activities to support students in developing and learning.
TEACHING SYSTEM
The Saint Louis University Basic Education School - Laboratory High School held classes every Monday to Friday. The flag-raising ceremony is held every Monday and starts at 7:30 AM. Class hours start from 7:40 AM until 4:00 PM. The number of subjects that students take is five (5), with each subject taking one (1) hour. The school has two breaks for students and teachers: Recess is from 9:40 to 10:00, and Lunch break is from 12:00 to 1:00.
Teaching Method
From what I observed, Sir Sison was in the classroom for nearly 3 weeks. He used developmental lesson methods. He often asks students about the topic before continuing the discussion. He also always asks students to recount their thoughts or experiences on the topic. This is what makes his teaching a student-centered approach. Also, he gives assignments in groups at the end of the discussion as the part of implementation of the discussed topic. This also enhances students' critical thinking because most of the time, they're supposed to analyze something.
Teaching Material and Innovation
For Senior High School grades 11 and 12, where I observed and taught, the teaching materials provided by teachers were modules according to the teaching guidelines of the Ministry of Education. Teachers also provide icebreakers at the beginning of the lesson to attract students' attention to the topic or continue the discussion.
Authentic Assessment Used by The Teacher
Based on my observations, my critical teacher used a performance-based assessment. An assessment is given at the end of the discussion to prepare the next topic and discussion. In addition, teachers give a summative assessment in a short activity, asking students to analyze sentences or a paragraph related to the topic.
After 3 weeks of observation, finally, my first schedule for my teaching demonstration was in 11 STEM G with the subject matter of Culture. A long teaching demonstration, I observed and taught this class gave me good experience while so nervous. Their behavior is very involved in the discussions in class.
On the same day, my second class was 11 STEM H. Not different from the first class, their behavior was really good and involved the discussion. I felt more confident and enjoyed this class. For STEM, I added a video about Indonesian Culture and started the discussion with the students and related to the topic.
On Wednesday, my teaching demonstration was in 12 Humss B. This class is my favorite, beside they are emotional, they are also active, excited, and appreciate my class. I taught them about Critical Thinking and put a little bit about my major, economics. I tried to relate every content to the subject matter.

Purposes of Practicum
As the participant of this SEA-Teacher program, I believe that this program has several purposes as mentioned below
Improving teaching skills of pre-service student teachers;
Facilitating pre-service student teachers to experience teaching in the school of other country and learn about the culture of the assigned country;
Training pre-service student teachers to face challenges regarding differences in new environment and letting them to adapt;
Enhancing pre-service student teachers’ English speaking ability.
Outcomes of Practicum
Enhancing my teaching skills as well my preparation to teach in the class;
Improving my English speaking skills, especially that I was assigned in the Philippines, which is a country that uses English as a second language;
Making me more open minded to different cultures, society and environment; and
Fostering myself to adapt into new environment and face challenges within the differences of educational system, cultures and society.
The Challenges of Practicum
In the first section, I was nervous and made me stutter when I spoke. I had to think about how this teaching demonstration is fun.
Classroom management. Sometimes when they’re excited about something, it’s difficult to get the students to be quiet and attentive again.
I have learned so much and this couldn't happen without my mom, my father, my brother, and all my family I couldn't mention one by one. I appreciate all the hard work you’ve done to help me, all the prayer, money, dedication, and support for me. Words are powerless to express my gratitude.
Also for my classmate at my university, I very much appreciate your help. And deeply from my heart thank you especially for my new friends Meriana my roommate, Undo my partner from UPI, Hana, Hilya, and Reza who were in the same batch as long this program. I cannot thank you enough for helping me, and for your efforts, you guys gave me learn something new, beautiful memories, and the happiness we made together.
Not forget to mention that my buddy ate Jeyhella thank you for trying your best to be there for me. I can feel your deep concern for me and all student's exchange. I appreciate you so much, more than I will even be able to show. and also for all buddies, I love you guys, you gave me something worth remembering, and for that, I'll always be thankful. Hope we still keep in touch even though there's so much space between us.
